SLIGHT SECONDS The ‘Hedgerow Goblet Hunter’ or ‘HGH’

PLEASE READ BEFORE BUYING.

Some of these slingshots have micarta scales that aren’t central enough for me to consider them a first rate product. Some may have small surface damage, but nothing to speak of. These are slight seconds.

OK, I’ll start with the basics. These slingshots are laser cut from 10mm stainless steel plate, clips cut, core threaded, bolts and clips attached, hand polished, then the clip bolts are removed and replaced with new ones so there are no polish marks on the new bolts, then they are assembled with the micarta pieces. As with everything hand done, please accept that nothing is millimetre perfect, there may be small deviations here and there, but overall I am very pleased, and proud to offer these up for sale.

The first batch back in September were rejected on quality issues. Amongst these issues, was the fact they had been over polished in areas, to remove small surface imperfections, which reduced the overall thickness of the core, and gave it a tapered look. The new batch I requested that nothing was spot polished, or over polished to remove very small marks. I believe this makes for a much better slingshot with an even thickness, however there may be tiny surface blemishes on some, so please know that these aren’t all completely immaculate and 100% flawless, nothing is.

Before use, completely remove the clips, taking care not to lose the springs behind the bolts. Make a note of which clip goes on what side. Clean and de-grease both sides of the clip area thoroughly, and check for any rough edges on either side of the clip. If you feel any, you may need to take these off with a small piece of sandpaper. Re-assemble the slingshot. Avoid overtightening on the bands, there is no need to crank the bolts up as hard as you can, firmly pinched up so the band compresses nicely is generally enough. Obviously keep a check on the bands to make sure they aren’t moving, and always do the first few draws away from the face. I still do this every time.

Lets get down to the slingshot itself. The HGH is a collaboration design between myself and Matt Redding, and ties in features of both of our hunting range of slingshots, my Goblet series, and Matts HH series. As mentioned at the beginning, these are 10mm stainless steel, with 5mm thick micarta scales, giving the handle a 20mm thickness. It features the same clip design as my EVO Field Pro, sloped and rounded, as well as the locating lug at the base of the clip. This serves two purposes; it helps to locate the clip securely, and stop it from moving, it also means you have a stop point when inserting the band. This means the band is exactly the same length each time, as well as the band not being able to get chewed up by the clip bolt if you happen to put it in a bit too far.

The tips are designed to be 27mm overall, but taking into account polishing losses, they are mostly coming in around 26mm. I did request the tips to be made at 28mm, but it seems it either wasn’t done, or they polished more down than expected. Overall width is designed to be 95mm, but are measuring around 94mm. I know these are tiny points, but I’ve had complaints in the past over small things like this. Overall length is 135mm.

I done a lot of hunting with this slingshot throughout spring and summer, while field-testing, and obviously by complete fluke, I just found it to be a complete Squirrel buster! I took so many with this, alongside my 0.85 Great White band, 25/20 taper, and mostly 11mm steel, or 10mm lead. Occasionally 11mm lead.

The case is 2mm thick, vegetable tanned, full top grain leather; the very best. The small section on the right hand side takes the Torx key (supplied). Initially this may be a little tight, but leather breaks in over time, and becomes looser, so I wanted a snug fit. 2 replacement pop buttons are also supplied, just in case the original ones fail at any point in the future. Before removal, or insertion of the slingshot into the case, fold the keys head outwards to give a clear path for the slingshot.

I think that covers it, and I really hope you enjoy your new slingshot for years to come. As always, please wear eye protection, and only shoot where it is safe and legal to do so.
